Baltimore Innovations

Baltimore Innovations are a leading, low cost manufacturer of desiccant products such as zeolite molecular sieve and silica gel. Baltimore supply from a wide range of industries from pharmaceutical to engineering to a global pool of multinational companies. A new product line of foil bags and laminates has coincided with the introduction of foil expert Simon Poulter to the Baltimore Innovations team.

As an ISO 9001 company, we pride ourselves on our customer service and product quality. All our desiccant products conform to British Standards, and all of our silica gels and molecular sieves can be supplied in sachet form, or as loose-fill media, in any quantity, and to any location in the world.

We pride ourselves on being the lowest-cost supplier of desiccants in Europe, and are always keen to prove the point with new customers. Feel free to put us to the test...

Foil Bags

Our Barrier Foil bags, pouches and box liners are used by a variety of well known multinational companies across a wide variety of medical, pharmaceutical and food industry applications. This includes everything from powdered foods and diagnostic test kits, to bulk storage of oral dose tablets and capsules – basically anything that needs to be kept absolutely dry when in transit or when it is on the shelf. Our bags, pouches and liners can be constructed in ANY SIZE and are made up from laminated 3 or 4 ply sheets bonded together to create a strong, flexible structure with very low Moisture Vapour Transmission Rates.

Our barrier foils are available in a range of different thicknesses from 100 to 220 microns, all of which can be fabricated into customised barrier foil bags, pouches, drums, and box liners. Furthermore, if it suits you better, we can even supply you with barrier foil ‘on the reel’.

Silica Gel

Silica gel is silicon dioxide (SiO2). It is a naturally occurring mineral that is purified and processed into either granular or beaded form. As a desiccant, it has an average pore size of 24 angstroms and has a strong affinity for moisture molecules. The silica gel will pull in moisture at temperatures up to 220°F (105°C). As temperature goes above 100°F, the rate of moisture pick-up will slow down but the silica gel will still work. Silica gel performs best at room temperatures (70° to 90°F) and high humidity (60 to 90% Rh) and will drop the relative humidity in a container down to around 40% Rh. In the United States, silica gel is commonly used in food and pharmaceutical applications as only silica gel has been approved by the FDA for direct contact with th ese items.

Molecular Sieve

Molecular sieve is a synthetic desiccant that has a very strong affinity for moisture molecules. As part of the manufacturing process, the pore size on the molecular sieve particles can be controlled. The most commonly used pore size is 4 angstroms (4A) although 3 angstroms (3A), 5 angstroms (5A) and 10 angstroms (13X) are available. Because the pore size is controllable, molecular sieve can be used for picking up specific gases as well as moisture. Molecular sieve can hold moisture to temperatures well past 450°F (230°C). Because of its high affinity for moisture, molecular sieve is able to bring the relative humidity in packages down as low as 10% RH.

Desiccant Plastics

Desiccants, molecular sieves, silica gel and others, can now be integrated directly into plastic compounds and moulded or extruded into any shape via any type of plastic manufacturing technology. By using Desiccant Plastics, you eliminate the costly step of inserting components into a package and you also eliminate the risk that consumers will discard the desiccant component.

Vials, canisters, containers, film, string, sheets, trays, strips, pills or any injection moulded product can be produced to meet your specific adsorption needs.

The desiccant materials used by our manufacturing partner have their own DMF and meet FDA requirements and can be seamlessly integrated into primary or secondary packaging.
