My name is John Shaw and have worked as a sound & maintenance engineer in Radio and Television (educational and associated BBC projects).

I formed my own company 'Shaw Sounds' in November 1981 and have provided an audio service in the South East of England offering consultancy, sales and transfer/restoration of vintage recordings to digital formats.
Over a period of time I've established good links with the BBC, this has allowed me to furnish the studio with a wide range of professional analog and digital equipment.

My main focus and personal interest of the business is to produce high quality audio CD transfers from vintage formats.

Shellac / Acetate 78 records, Vinyl LPs, Reel to Reel tapes and Cassettes are but some of the many formats available for conversion.

With the aid of the internet, orders are received from all over the UK including projects from Canada, USA, Japan, Norway, Germany and West Australia.

Private record collections are always welcome however large or small !

I'm constantly amazed at the increased demand for retrieving sound information to CD, it all holds valued and treasured memories for so many people!

I particularly enjoyed preparing audio input for the John Peel programme - 'Home Truths' for BBC Radio 4 in 2004.

Many of these audio conversions are processed using 'Cedar Audio' technology as a professional restoration tool - this insures the highest possible quality and the most effective noise removal from original sources.

Some of my work has involved digitising large quantities of oral history archive tapes - this is particularly satisfying, knowing that the content will be preserved for years to come for other generations.

With the growing popularity of genealogy these days, vintage audio recordings are becoming an interesting addition to family history documentation.

SHAW SOUNDS

I enjoy listening to music of very high quality and literally earn a living from allowing others to do the same.

By paying attention to the smallest detail, I am an enthusiast in the quest for ultimate performance.

My interest in audio started many years ago building 'crystal set' radios and listening to the 'Home Service' on the BBC medium wave band - I'm afraid that dates me a bit!
I also remember with affection visiting the "Radio Show" exhibition each year at Earls Court, London, searching out all the products that reproduced the best quality of sound!

Roberts Radio and Hacker Brothers VHF transistor receivers come to mind - beautiful !

Well, things have come a long way since then and the level of fidelity sound seems to have reached an all time high.

As a musician at my local church, I have the opportunity to play a range of musical instruments, therefore have an ongoing interest in all types and styles of music and their sound reproduction.

It brings great satisfaction to be able to produce, restore and transfer music and speech recordings to CD or any other digital form, especially vintage and archive gems!

These days the "Compact Disc" format is one of the most practical and user-friendly methods of reproducing audio at a high standard. It's small, efficient and reliable.
By transferring old material to CDR, customers have been able to relive the past, they can now listen to recordings on a format that will not spoil or deteriorate.

My company slogan is "Reproducing the best possible quality of sound", my aim is to maintain that service for the listener at all times!

John Shaw.
